Warringah 5/212 (Mason 2/51; Boorer 1/13; Maconnachie 1/27; Mayes 1/42 defeated OICC 9/205 (Eriksson54*; Grimes 34; Bassingthwaite 29*; Mason 23; Mayes 23; Maconnachie 16; Goradia 15)
Warringah won the toss and chose to bat.
We began pretty well, keeping the runs down and picking up 2 wickets for 46 around the 14th over. From there, we just couldn’t seem to pick up wickets, and began to leak runs.
Their opener and numbers 4 & 5 reached 40 retired, and number 6 was well on his way 40 before we got our 3rd wicket to have them 3/197. Late wickets to ‘the Difference’ Mason & C MAC Maconnachie saw their innings closed at 5/212.
On a pretty good Weldon wicket, 212 was certainly achievable, and our openers The Eel Eriksson (54*) & Wild Thing Grimes (34) – both with their highest scores for OICC – got us off to the perfect start. Eel made his 40, and we lost our 1st wicket at 98 in the 16th over. Mayes (23) & Mason (23) looked to be keeping us in the chase, and we went to drinks, losing Mayes, at 2/114. 99 required off 20. Comparatively, Warringah were 2/79 at drinks.
The next 10 overs saw us lose the skip, Mason (23) & Maconnachie (16), but we had kept the scoring rate up, and we put on 47 to be 4/161.
6 wickets in hand, including the in-form Eel to return, with 10 to go needing 5 an over, we were in the box seat. Unfortunately we lost 4/10 in the next 4 overs, and we couldn’t quite get the required 5 an over and played out a maiden or 2. When Frosty Fruit (5) went in at 8 down for 171, we needed 42 off the last 6, and runs were proving hard to come by.
2 overs to go requiring 25. 1 over to go requiring 20. Warringah picked up their 9th wicket on the 1st ball of the 40th over, bringing the Eel back in. Eel soaked up the 2nd ball. 3rd ball 4, 4th ball 2, dot, 5th ball 6. So, needing 20 of last over, Eel hit 12, falling 7 runs short.
