We did manage to play in the previous round (18 January) – being on full synthetic meant we got a game when most others didn’t. And it was a good game, one which we could have / should have won …..but didn’t ….
We lost the toss and at 10-3 off 5 overs we were in a lot of trouble with Big Show, Sharpy and Riordo all in the shed. Nirav (if only he could play every week) rescued us again with an excellent 76 and a fourth wicket partnership of 104 with AB (35no), plus a cameo 17 from Bails helped us get to 157-6 off our 35 overs, a decent score from the perilous position at the start of the innings. The chase was always close, but Crows Nest were always slightly ahead as you can see from the ‘worm’ below !! (you have the love the electronic scoring).
As in the previous match against Rebels (who we think are the best team in the league), their number 4 took the game away from us (interestingly the only two games he’s played this season!). Wickets were spread - Romo (2-27), Dhruv (1-15) and Bails (1-34), though the pick of the bowlers was Raj, who bowled a splendid spell of 7-1-21-2. We also managed to hold onto 4 excellent catches and didn’t drop a catch in the game. But it wasn’t enough and Rebels reached the target 7 down with 2 overs to spare.
We obviously didn’t want to peak too early this season, but we need to start winning soon if we’re going to make the finals !
