Two very different sides took the field on Saturday – Taronga v West Pymble Floppys at Artarmon.

One was a team of old(ish) blokes with a sprinkling of young guys, the other a team of fit, strong, agile mid-twenty year olds.  The superior fitness and agility of these young guns (guns being the appropriate word here) was to prove the difference between the sides.

We batted first and despite losing Big Show early got off to a decent start progressing to 68-1 (after 12 overs) before Sharpy chased a wide one and was caught for 30 (7 x 4). After Sharpy’s dismissal we struggled – it seemed that every shot found a fielder – or rather the fielder was fit and athletic and was able to anticipate and move to stop the ball (proper fielding 😊).   Scores from AB (18), Yogesh (15) and Jacko (15) weren’t enough and we moved slowly to 120 a.o, the one bright spot being Little Show (1no) who once again outscored his dad.

The second innings didn’t last long. Their captain smashed his way to 50 and Floppys chased down the target with 18 overs to spare, with our fielders about as mobile and agile as those static figures in the Test Match board game

The difference between the sides was summed in the last few overs as the two umpires officiated with shirts off, guns & six packs on show – which promoted a call from Sharpy – “Hey AB, looking forward to you and Raj umpiring like that next week”!
